Not without reason Lublin is called “little Krakow”. It is the most important cultural and academic center of Eastern Poland. The city is also known for its Jewish heritage. Narrow streets and buildings from different time periods create a unique atmosphere of the city.
Pickup from hotel in Warsaw and transfer to Lublin. The tour will start with a visit in Majdanek Nazi Camp. Located on the outskirts of Lublin it is a unique example of concentration camp located near population center. The camp was going to be the source of a free workforce for the realization of the plans to build a German empire in the east. Prisoners came from nearly 30 countries, mainly Poles and Jews, but also Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians and others. The tragic history of the Lublin concentration camp came to an end on 23rd July 1944 after the Red Army entered the city. During a guided tour, visit Majdanek National Museum, Monument of Struggle and Martyrdom at Majdanek, Mausoleum containing ashes from the victims of Nazi hate and some remains of the camp.
Next, drive to Lublin and join a 2-hour walking tour around city’s top sights. Visit Lublin castle founded in the 12th century. It is one of the oldest royal residences in the country. Now it is the iconic symbol of the city. In the castle’s courtyard, you will find the Chapel of Holy Trinity. It was added to the Castle in 14th century – during the reign of Casimir III the Great – one of the most powerful Polish kings. The chapel’s coping is decorated with Byzantine-style frescoes influenced by the Eastern Orthodox church. Another most recognizable object in the Old Town is Krakow Gate. It is another symbol of the city raised by King Casimir the Great.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant during the tour (depending on the program timing). Return to the hotel in Warsaw late evening.
This excursion is organized on private basis for small groups of 2 - 8 participants.
