Katowice: a journey through time is a city tour that lets you explore Katowice’s rich history across different eras. The experience takes place aboard a vintage Ikarus 260 or 280 bus – a classic vehicle that once dominated the roads of Silesia during the communist era.
The tour begins at Katowice’s Market Square, where a guide shares stories about the city’s origins in Upper Silesia. From there, participants walk along Korfanty Avenue toward the Silesian Insurgents Monument and board the historic bus.
The first stop is the iconic Spodek arena, a symbol of Katowice. Nearby lies the Culture Zone, developed on the grounds of the former “Ferdinand-Grube” coal mine. No visit to Katowice would be complete without seeing Nikiszowiec – one of Poland’s most famous workers’ housing estates.
Next, the tour visits the Wujek Coal Mine, a memorial site of the tragic events of December 1981. The route continues through the southern part of the city to the Cathedral of Christ the King – the largest church in Upper Silesia. The penultimate stop is the Silesian Parliament Square, showcasing examples of interwar architecture.
The excursion ends in the city center near the former Hotel Katowice, where participants reflect on their journey through time – from industrial roots to the modern face of this Silesian metropolis.
Chosen excursion available subject to minimal number of 8 adult participants.
