DAY 1: Pickup from the hotel. Breakfast break then heading to Minneriya National Park – a renowned wildlife sanctuary famous for its large gatherings of Asian elephants. The park spans 88.9 square kilometers and features a diverse ecosystem that includes scrubland, forests and wetlands making it a haven for various wildlife species. Time for lunch. The next stop is the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This remarkable complex consists of five caves carved into a massive granite outcrop, featuring exquisite Buddhist murals and over 150 statues of Buddha in various poses. Then overnight stay at a hotel (3*).
DAY 2: Transfer to Sigiriya, known as a Lion Rock – an ancient rock fortress, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rising about 200 meters above the landscape, it was built in the 5th century AD. Climbing a steep staircase allows to see the stunning frescoes of celestial maidens and the Lion’s Gate with its massive stone paws. The las stop is the Polonnaruwa – an ancient city known for its well-preserved ruins and rich history. Once a capital city of Sri Lanka in the 11th and 12th centuries, it features remarkable archeological sites, including the Gal Vihara, which showcases stunning rock-carved Buddha statues, and the Royal Palace complex with its impressive architecture. Time for lunch and return to the hotel.
