Program Description

Embark on a two-day adventure through the heart of Sri Lanka, combining spectacular wildlife, ancient royal cities and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From an exciting elephant safari to the iconic Lion Rock and magnificent Buddhist temples, this tour showcases some of the island's greatest treasures.

On Day 1, after hotel pick-up and a breakfast stop, you'll travel to Minneriya National Park, one of Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserves and one of the best places to observe wild Asian elephants in their natural habitat. Covering nearly 89 square kilometres of forests, scrubland and wetlands, the park is also home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. After lunch, continue to the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features five magnificent caves decorated with exquisite Buddhist murals and more than 150 statues of Buddha. Overnight accommodation is provided in a 3-star hotel.

On Day 2, visit the iconic Sigiriya, also known as Lion Rock. Rising approximately 200 metres above the surrounding plains, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was built in the 5th century and remains one of Sri Lanka's most impressive archaeological landmarks. Climb the famous staircase to admire the remarkable frescoes of the celestial maidens and the monumental Lion Gate, with its enormous stone paws.

The journey continues to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, one of Sri Lanka's former royal capitals. Explore its remarkably preserved archaeological remains, including the impressive Gal Vihara rock-carved Buddha statues and the magnificent Royal Palace complex.

After a lunch break, return to your hotel.

The itinerary and programme may be subject to change.
